What days are Sessions played on?
The majority of league sessions will be played on Sunday afternoons.  The only exception to that, is the July 21, 2012 session, it will be played on a Saturday.  Regardless of being Saturday or Sunday, all 1st games will start at 12:00 pm.

Will the points champion receive the Decatur Poker League Champion Silver Card Protector?

Yes.  The champion will be determined as the member, Gold or regular, with the most league points at the end of the November 11th, 2012 session.  The champions card protector will stay the same as it has since the 1st year of the league.

Will there be circuits in 2012?
Yes.  Above you will see that the Early Circuit is associated with Sessions 1, 2, and 3; the Mid Circuit is associated with the Sessions 4, 5, and 6; and the Late Circuit is associated with Sessions 7, 8, and 9.

Circuits are mini leagues within the overall league.

The top 3 player earning the most points for only sessions 1, 2, and 3, will be awarded an additional prize for the Early Circuit.  The top 3 player earning the most points for only sessions 4, 5, and 6, will be awarded an additional prize for the Mid Circuit.  The top 3 player earning the most points for only sessions 7, 8, and 9, will be awarded an additional prize for the Late Circuit.  A player must be present for 2 out of 3 sessions, or 4 out of 6 games in the respective Circuit to qualify for the additional prize for that circuit.  This allows a player to earn an additional prize, if he/she is unable to play enough games throughout the year to qualify for season prizes.  Circuit winners don't dictate who the player of the year is.  The player of the year or DPL champion is still determined by the player who has the most league points at the end of the November 11th, 2012 session.  For record purposes only the circuit winner and runner-ups will be recognized.

What is the policy for session registrations, late arrivals, and the wait list?
A member must register for the next upcoming session via the DPL website session registration, or informing the league commissioner via the phone or in person.  The time in which a member has to make it to a game varies depending on whether there is a wait list or not.  If there is a no wait list then:

a. Gold members have until 1:00 p.m. to make it to the 12:00 p.m. game.  If the Gold member is running late, there is no need to call a committee member to tell them, the Gold member will be blinded out until he/she arrives.  If he/she doesn't arive before 1:00 p.m., the chips will be removed from the table and he/she will not be able to play that game.
b. Regular members or new players have until 1:00 p.m. to make it to the 12:00 p.m. game.  If the regular member is running late, it is courtesy to call a committee member to tell them, the regular member will be blinded out until he/she arrives.  If he/she doesn't arive before 1:00 p.m., the chips will be removed from the table and he/she will not be able to play that game.

The wait list is a list of members or new players that have registered for the upcoming session after there are already 20 registered players.  If a member or new player is on the wait list, they have the option to show up to the session with the understanding that they may not get to play.  There is always a chance that any wait list member or new player will get to play in place of a late registered member or new player.  Therefore, if there is a wait list then:

a. Gold members have until 1:00 p.m. to make it to the 12:00 p.m. game.  If the Gold member is running late, there is no need to call a committee member to tell them, the Gold member will be blinded out until he/she arrives.  If he/she doesn't arrive before 1:00 p.m., the chips will be removed from the table and he/she will not be able to play that game.  At which point the first wait list member or new player will be able to enter the game at the current blind level and receive the standard starting chip stack, the same stack that all players received at the beginning the game.
b. Regular members or new players have until either 1:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. to make it to the 12:00 p.m. game.  If the regular member is running late and calls a committee member to tell them, the regular member will have until 1:00 p.m. to make it to the 12:00 p.m. game.  If the regular member is running late and DOES NOT call a committee member to tell them, the regular member will have until 12:00 p.m. to make it to the 12:00 p.m. game.  Regardless of the situation, when the timeframe elapses the first wait list member or new player will be able to enter the game at the current blind level and receive the standard starting chip stack, the same stack that all players received at the beginning the game.

As far as the wait list for 2nd game, any member, Gold or regular, not arriving before any above mentioned timeframes will be moved to the bottom of the wait list.

If a member or new player has not registered for a session and arrives after the first flop has hit the table, the member has officially missed that game and will not be able to play.  If a member or new player misses the first game, he/she can stick around and participate in the 2nd game.  Gold members have 1st priority for registration over regular members.  Gold members have until the Wednesday prior to the session to secure a spot in that session.  Regular member and new player registration is based off of 1st come 1st serve.  Once 20 members have registered for a particular session, any members or new players that register after the 1st 20 will be put on a waiting list based on the time of their registration.  Current registration lists are always updated on this website, to view the registration page for the next session, click here.

What is the difference between a Gold Member and a Member?
A Gold Member is a member that has been in attendance for six of the last nine (most recent) sessions, or 12 out of last 18 games.  A regular member is a member that has not completed enough games to be deemed a Gold member.

Will there be a player roster for 2012 Poker League?
Yes.  The committee has discussed current members and new players for the league roster.  The roster is composed of all players on the player's page on the DPL website.  New player referrals are not listed on the player's page until they are approved as regular members.  Only names in the drop-down menu when registering for a session are allowed to play.  In other words, if your name is not in the list, you are no eligible to participate in the next session.

Will the league allow new members/players?
Yes.  New players will be allowed, but only if referred by a Gold Member.

New player referrals need to be submitted to the DPL committee members prior to the player coming.  If the committee decides not to allow a new referred player, the member who referred the new player will be notified that the new referral will not be allowed to play.  Since this is a private league, the committee reserves the right to deny new players and/or membership to anyone for any reason.  However, once the committee has agreed to allow the new player to come, the new player's name will be added to the registration drop-down menu, and then the following needs to happen from the new player and the Gold member referring the new player:

a. A Gold member referring a new player needs to inform the new player that he/she will be rated at their first DPL appearance.  If the present league members feel that this new player is ok to continue as a regular member, the new player will be officially welcomed to the league and will be allowed to continue attending as a regular member, pending that he/she registers before 20 others for the next session.  However, if multiple present league members feel that the new player is not right for the league for concrete reasoning, the new player will not become a regular member of the league and the Gold member that referred the new player will be asked to inform the new player that he/she will not become a regular member of the DPL.  Since the DPL is a private league, it has the right to reject membership.
b. A new player coming to make his/her first DPL appearance needs to conduct himself/herself in a professional manner.  Poker is a game of skill and luck.  The new player needs to remember that poker is just a game and every poker player should know that bad beats happen.  A new player will be looked at and rated by all league members that are present at the new player's 1st DPL appearance.  If the new player gets a favorable rating from the present league members, the new player will be officially welcomed to the league and will be allowed to continue attending as a regular member, pending that he/she registers before 20 others for the next session.  However, if a new player gets a less than favorable rating from the present league members, for concrete reasoning, the new player will not become a regular member of the league and will be informed of this by the Gold member that referred him/her.

How does the league handle members that no longer play?
The committee discusses league members every December.  If the player is not a Gold Member, and the member has not attended a session in the previous year, the member in question will be removed from the roster and no longer be allowed to play on the league, unless referred as a new player in the future.

How will the league contact members for league updates and news?
All league info, updates, and news can be found on Decatur Poker League website.  All league members will be required to fill out a contact information form and supply the contact information to the league's committee members.  The entire league will receive contact information on all the league committee members.  This will allow a member or new player to have the ability to contact a committee member in case they can't attend or will be late for a session.

Is the point structure going to stay the same for the 2012 season?
No.  The point system has been simplified and the point system from 2008-2011 has been retired.  The new point structure fluctuates depending on the number of players playing in each game.  The base points structure is such that 1st place in each game gets one point for every player that is entered in the game.  If there are 20 players for a game, 1st place gets 20 points.  If there is 14 players for a game, 1st place gets 14 points.  For every position lower than 1st, 1 point is subtracted from the position above it.  This progresses until last place for each game gets 1 point.

In addition to the base points, there are bonus points.  The bonus point structure is for the top three spots.  1st place receives a 15 point bonus in addition to the base point structure.  2nd place receives a 10 point bonus in addition to the base point structure.  3rd place receives a 5 point bonus in addition to the base point structure.

What is the rule when a player shows his/her cards?
Show 1, show all.  All players have the right to request to see the cards if a player shows another player his/her cards.

What is Table Talk?
The context of Table Talk on the DPL is of the negative kind.  Table Talk is when you are out of the hand and a flop comes out and you talk about what cards you just folded.  It is bad sportsmanship to Table Talk while the current hand is still being played.  If you want to moan and groan about what you folded once the hand is over, that's fine, but don't do so while others are still in the current hand.  Why?  It gives information, good and bad, to the other players still in the hand.

What is the DPL's stance on Table Talk and Foul Language?
This is a strict rule since 2011.  If a player is caught Table Talking, the other players at the table need to correct the player in the wrong, and ask the player to stop.  This will be the players 1st warning.  If the player continues to Table Talk, the DPL committee will discuss the issue and the player in question.  Following the committee's meeting, one committee member will talk to the player that was in the wrong, and inform that player that if he/she continues to Table Talk, they will no longer be able to play on the DPL.  As a committee, we know this is strict, but if you know about it ahead of time, you have no worries about how to conduct yourself.

Will there be a Heads-Up Challenge in 2012?
Yes.  The Heads Up Challenge is scheduled for August 12, 2012 @ John's Poker Room.  The Heads Up Challenge will be open to any member who has played in at least three (3) sessions or six (6) games during the 2012 season, prior to the Heads-Up Challenge.  All matches during the Heads Up Challenge will not have a time limit.

What is the Flower Fund?
The flower fund was setup to fund the purchasing of flowers in the case that one of the DPL's member's immediate family member passes away.  The league requires that all members put toward the flower fund on their first session of the 2012 season.  New players are not required to put towards the fund until their first session of 2012 as a regular member.

What are the qualifications for the End of the Season awards?
In order to qualify for the End of the Season awards, a member must play in at least six (6) out of nine (9) sessions, or 12 out of 18 games.

Will there be full time dealers?
The league is not going to hire full time dealers, but when members are knocked out of a game, they have the ability to deal for the rest of the table to speed up the progression of the game.  It is encouraged.  However, it is the responsibility of the remaining players to instruct the dealer to cut or not to cut the cards after the shuffle and prior to the dealing of the current hand.  Some players don't like the deck to be cut, some do.  The players remaining in the game need to speak up, but it is the player's choice.
