As 14 players gathered to play poker for the July session at David Kates' new house, there were two new players, Britt and Krystal Sturgeon. The first game started out great for myself, as I was able to knock out Tom Basil early in the game with the DPL's first dealt royal flush. One hand doesn't win a game, as I went card dead late. One of the veteran DPL members, Pete Kates was able to take down the other 13 players to take the win in the 1st game of the July 2010 session. It had been sometime since Pete had won last, and he was catching plenty of cards late in game 1, as he took out several players himself. Pete took down the 2010 DPL rookie, Steve Leevy, in heads up play. Along with Pete and Steve, the others two finishers in the top 4 were Mike Patterson and Keith Watrous. Congrats to Steve on his first top 3 finish.
The chips were releoaded and players were ready for game 2. In the second game when players merged to one table, players were able to watch Britt and Krystal at the same table. Krystal was able to outlast her husband in game 2. Keith Watrous was short stacked after we colored up the black $100 chips, with only $4,500 in chips. Keith was able to double up and then triple up in back to back hands. Again, to win you have to catch cards late in the game. He did just that, he kept catching good cards and was able to plow through the remaining five players and take game 2. This is Keith's first win of the season. Pete took down the another 2010 DPL rookie, Mike Patterson, in heads up play. Along with Keith and Mike, the others two finishers in the top 4 were Krystal Sturgeon and Bob Willenborg. |
