TUNE UP

October 11, 2009
by: Phillip Barry, DPL Commissioner and Champion

If you looked at the standings a couple months ago, you would have predicted that Chad Haynes would be the 2009 DPL Champion, but he has not been running all that good of late. In the 2nd game of the August 2009 session, Chad had flopped the nut straight to come up short to two (2) full houses that were both caught on the river. In the 1st game of the October 2009 session, Chad got all his chips in with against Keith who held . Since Bob Burtschi was in the same hand with , Keith was down to a one outer, he needed the last remaining King, the . The odds were not on Keith’s side, well until the flop hit and the landed. Needless to say, Chad was given yet another bad beat. Chad needs to get his game to the shop and get it tuned up, or tip the dealers a bit more......

Chad is actually playing good poker, but everyone in poker knows that there are bad beats waiting. I have had them, Keith Watrous has had them, all poker players have had them, and nobody likes them. Keep your head up Chad, two games to go and anything can happen. If you see them, flops will come.

With the HPT event around the corner from the final session, the season will come down to the play of Chad and Keith. Who wants to win more, trust me, they both want it equally as bad.
