The first game of the Final session for the DPL had 12 players in attendance, Tom Basil and Pat Horve became the newest members of the DPL.  The excitement was high with the crowning of a new champion happening later in the day, so much that the two players fighting for the title, were eliminated in 10th and 11th places.  The two guys wanting to win, go out early in the game, which meant the game two would decided the title.  They were only preceded in elimination by myself.  I had the best hand until..... When I raised pre-flop with , I was called by David Kates. After the flop came , and David bet 1,200, I called.  The turn brought , and David look at my stack and put me all-in.  I had a good read on him that he did not have the case 9, and thus there was only one had that was ahead and that was aces.  When I called and showed my , David was not happy as he showed .  When the river brought , I was out just like that.  Bad beats are a part of the game, and I have seen enough this season.  David atleast took my chips and put them to good use by winning game 1 of the Final session.

Before the last game started, Chad and Keith were still the only two players able to win the title of 2009 Decatur Poker League Champion.  Chad had a 37.51 point lead over Chad.  Therefore, if Chad was eliminated before Keith, he had to hope Keith did not finish higher than 4th places, assuming Chad was not eliminated early.  If you know poker, you know it is a game of odds. Pot odds, implied odds, or the odds that I will catch one of any number of outs. Keith defied every odd you could think of during the second game of the final 2009 DPL session. He was forced all-in when he could not cover his big blind bet. That did not stop the cards from coming out in Keith's favor. Though he doubled up, he was not out of danger because shortly after his first all-in, he moved all-in again with . When two other players called his all-in and the began to check it down, Keith caught a on the river to triple up. Before long Keith had momentum and he was able to outlast ten (10) other players and win the 2nd game, thus taking the title of Decatur Poker League Champion for 2009.  Once Chad and Keith were both still in with four (4) players remaining, the title was going to go to whomever outlasted the other.  A big congrats goes out to Chad for a great season, and good luck to all in 2010.
