When I started the league in 2008, I had to tell high school classmate and best friend, Chad about it. Though Chad lives in Collinville, IL, he makes the trip to Decatur every session he can. In the three years of the league, Chad has only missed one session.
Chad was progressing along during the first game of the September session, when he got in a hand with John. After the flop paired Chad, he was willing to call John's all-in. John turned over two clubs and was unable to complete the flush after the river. Had John caught his flush, Chad would have been sent to the rail. However, Chad used is new found (or earned) chips and put them to good use. Once heads-up with Keith, Chad was able to go on to win game 1. Along with Chad and Keith, Britt and Bob Burtschi rounded out the top 4.
When I started the 2nd game of the September session, I was seated with Chad, Keith, Mike, and my father. This was a table of some of the 2010 league leaders, and we were not wanting to tangle too much before going to one table. That didn't take long as the other table announce that they were down a player. Once merged to one table, I went card dead for atleast 30 minutes. Shortly before a break, when I was UTG (Under the Gun) and looked down at   . With the blinds at 3,000 - 6,000 with a 200 ante, I felt it was time to shove my 16,400. I then got three callers. With Jacks and three callers, I was a bit nervous, when the flop came    , I was still nervous with straight and flush draws still out there, but I was eased after a  on the turn, thus making a full house. After quadrupling up, I then proceeded to make up for being card dead early. In route to winning, I got   (win),   (win),  (again, win),   (chop),  (win),  (win), and finally  (win). It would have been hard or very un-lucky not to win with cards like these. I caught the Aces on the final hand of the two heads-up hands I played against Krystal. Other Krystal and myself, Steve and Keith finsihed in the top 4. |
