Over the years, the DPL has had members come and go. Just because you are new to the league, doesn't mean that you are not going to do well early. William joined the league last October and earned his first win last November. When the DPL got togehter this past Sunday for the second session of the 2012 season, there were 17 players in attendace for the first game. When the field got down to enough people for one (1) table, there were nine (9) players. William was able to knock out players in 11th and 10th place. Once the final table was set, William had a huge chip stack to battle with. William had not only been running good, but he was also making some good reads on his opponents. He was able to cruise to heads up play against fellow new player Chad Wolpert. Chad need a few double ups in order to get back into this game and he got just that. He overtook the chip lead at one point and then when William went all-in pre-flop, Chad snap called with , William flipped over . Could William win the race or would Chad be another first time winner on the DPL? The flop came out , giving William a set of deuces, the turn brought a , and the river didn't help Chad and thus he doubled William up and gave him back the chip lead. In a few hands later Chad pushed with , William called with , the flopped , the turn , and the river didn't not improve Chad's hand and thus William had won for the second time on the DPL. Other than William and Chad, Bob Burtschi and A.J. Berry rounded out the top four for game 1.
Game two started with 16 players. The game went on at a steady pace and it seemed that when the field got down to the final table, there was no huge chip leader. As play dwindled down to four (4) players, the cards were not all that great, as one player raised, action would fold pre-flop. Finally when the cards started to liven up a bit, Tom Tatham seem to be catching his share. So after Tom Basil was out in third, A.J. and Tom were set to go heads up. That was short lived because on the first hand of heads up play, A.J. was all-in with enough to cover the blinds and antes. A.J. was unable to catch anything and Tom was another first time winner on the DPL. I happened to come in his first DPL appearance as well. Other than Tom and A.J., Tom Basil and Steve Larry rounded out the top four for game 2.
