After a couple weeks since the last session, players were still very eager to play some cards. David Kates cut down the stacks of his opponents a little at a time, and eliminated a player or two along the way. David was catching the cards at key moments, and that is what it takes to win on the Decatur Poker League. He was able to eliminate one player after calling his opponent's all-in with against and catching a on the flop. David outlasted a field of 13 players and defeated Chad Haynes heads up to win game 1 of the 3rd session of 2010. Along with David and Chad, the others two finishers in the top 4 were Keith Watrous and myself.
After winning game 1, David's run of catching cards appear to continue. David was able to make it to the final table and go heads up with Tom Basil. Tom was eliminated early in the first game after a bad beat. The comment I made earlier about needing to catch some cards is the key to winning on the Decatur Poker League, Tom understands this very much because he was able to catch a card to give a straight that enabled him to chop a pot with John Barry. John had already made his straight and Tom risked all his chips on a draw, but he caught his card to stay in the game. Tom took back his chips and then went on to win the game that had 14 players. Other than Tom and David, Chad Haynes and Mike Patterson rounded out the top 4 for game 2 of session 3 of 2010. |
