Every year as the season winds down to the final session, the excitement of having a chance to win the player of the year title increases. After playing well all season, I was able to win the title for the second time. I now know that I will have a more difficult time trying to win a third title in 2012, as everyone wants a title more than ever. David Kates has said that he would love to win the title, Keith Watrous and Chad Haynes want to win a second title, and Mike Patterson is sure tired of finishing runner-up in each of his first two season's on the Decatur Poker League. Though this league is not the World Series of Poker, a player of year title is just as worthy to the DPL members.
After the season is completed, the next task at hand is to get the DPL committee together for the yearly meeting. This yearly meeting allows the committee members to discuss and vote on new rules, changes to the league, membership, and setting up a schedule for the next season. As the meeting went on and agenda item after agenda item got crossed off the list, we came to the final two agenda items, the point system and the schedule.
Initially I thought the huge issue was going to be the discussion of simplifying the point system, we soon realised that trying to set a schedule around John and Penny's retirement travel schedule was damn near impossible. I thought I would have a better chance understanding my three year old saying "Worcestershire Sauce". As is turns out, we were able to get a solid schedule set and we didn't even have to call Purdue University and ask to borrow one the fastest super computers in the USA. It seemed like as we went from month to month asking for bad dates, there was dad with his hand raised like a persistent 3 year old asking to go the bathroom every five seconds. I think by the time we got to October, I just said, "OK, what are the bad dates for October? Dad, where are you and Penny going or coming back from in October?" At one point, Bob Burtschi was becoming quite jealous of all the trips that Dad and Penny were taking in 2012, must be nice, just bring on retirement for the rest of us. Regardless of how jealous we can all be of retirees, we have a schedule that allows three of them to play quite often in 2012.
Yes we were also able to establish a new point system. The new system will be much more simple to understand and keep track of. As far as the old points, the player profile pages and player's page will keep the old points listed, as well as, displaying the new points earned in 2012. |
