ESPN 1050 Free Poker Challenge 2

     Dad (John) and myself (Phillip) were the only two DPL members to make it to the 1st night of the ESPN 1050 Free Poker Challenge 2. With a field of 38 players, the top 10% (4 players) would earn a spot in the Week 12 Finals, along with another player who won the last chance table, and a lucky player who eliminated the mystery bounty player.  Dad was able to win a few key all-in hands to make into the top 4 and finish 3rd overall. I was short stacked to the leader and after a dozen heads-up hands, I finished 2nd. By finishing in 2nd place, I earned a spot in the Week 12 Finals and also earned a $500 bonus in starting chips for the Week 12 Final.

     Week 2 of the ESPN 1050 Free Poker Challenge brought out 7 DPL members. Keith Watrous was the only member to make it into the top 10% for the evening and earn a spot in the Week 12 Final. This brings the DPL numbers to 3 in the Week 12 Final. Keith was able to finish 3rd out of 82 players.

     Week 3 of the ESPN 1050 Free Poker Challenge brought only 1 DPL member, myself. There was another DPL member present, but he is the tournament director, Aric Lee (new member). I finished 18th out of 76 players, just missing out on the top 10% by 10 spots. The incentive for me finishing in the top 10% is to prevent others from qualifying for the Week 12 Final.

     Neuhoff Media / WDZ The Fan has brought back the "ESPN 1050 Free Poker Challenge".   The host location is "The Sports Zone" bar at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel. Signups are at 6:00 pm and shuffle up and deal is at 7:00 pm every Thursday night starting January 7, 2010 and running for 12 weeks. The first 11 weeks give players a chance to earn points and the 12th Thursday is the final night, where someone will win a trip for two to Las Vegas. For the official flyer, click here to download.
